New to Abu?
One thing you really need to know is that if you don't pay attention you might gain 5kg in 6 months.
Think about it.
•Taxi / drive everywhere!
•Eat out a LOT more often!
•Contrary to what you might of thought you now drink (not water) more than you did when you were back home.
•Use escalators not stairs.
•No longer do manual chores.
All these things combined add up to the dreaded Ab Dhab flab.
Here are a few tips and tricks to avoid it;
•Join an active community! Socializing is one of the best things about AD. It's a very social city but there are other things to socialize around other than booze and food. Find a fitness or sports club and spend some time making active friends.
•Cook! Yes there's a great restaurant around every corner and I'm sure they do offer a 'healthy' option but there's no better way to keep track of what goes into your mouth than to cook it yourself!
•To help with the above suggestion invest in a slow cooker. We are all busy people here in AD and the thought of getting in from work and spending 30 to 60 minutes cooking is NOT a nice one so get a couple of slow cooker recipes under your belt. Throw the ingredients in before work and come home to a hearty home cooked curry or stew.
•Park 5 minutes or more from work, get dropped off 2 blocks from home and or take the stairs to your apartment at the end of the day (yes even if you're carrying the shopping)
Really I don't meant to patronize with the very simple and what might seem like obvious suggestion but I've been here as a personal trainer for nearly 10 years and the most common scenario I hear when people call me is 'So I've been here a year and haven't done a thing, just eat, work and party. Now I'm 5 (I've heard much worse figures) kilos heavier than when I got here. I used to be in great shape honestly'.
I fell foul to it too. I just put it down to the sparkly hotels and restaurants and hired help.
Don't fall for it folks.
More love. More fitness.
